Ghana to Host 2026 Africa Aquatics Swimming Championships in May

Ghana has been officially confirmed as the host nation for the 2026 Africa Aquatics Swimming Championships, further strengthening the country’s growing reputation as a leading hub for aquatic sports on the continent.

The six-day continental championship is scheduled to run from May 5 to May 10, 2026, and will be staged at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra, one of Ghana’s premier sporting facilities.

For the first time in the history of the competition, the championship will be staged under a modified format, bringing together Seniors, Juniors, Masters, as well as Inter-Zonal Championships in a single event. The innovative structure is aimed at enhancing competition, promoting inclusivity, and providing broader exposure for swimmers across different age categories and regions.

The Bureau of Africa Aquatics has commended Ghana for its unwavering commitment to the growth and development of aquatic sports in Africa, expressing confidence in the country’s ability to deliver another successful international championship.

Ghana’s selection as host comes on the back of an impressive track record in organizing major swimming events. In recent years, the country has successfully hosted the Africa Aquatics Junior and Senior Swimming and Open Water Championships in 2021, the Africa Aquatics Zone II Junior Championships in August 2023, and the Africa Aquatics Zone II Junior and Senior Championships in 2025.

With proven organizational capacity, modern facilities, and strong institutional support, Ghana’s hosting of the 2026 championships is expected to further boost swimming development and elevate the profile of aquatic sports across Africa.
