Kofi Adams hails Black Stars’ vital win over Mali

Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has praised the Black Stars following their narrow but crucial 1–0 victory over Mali in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Monday evening at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Speaking after the game, Kofi Adams commended the players for securing the much-needed three points, stressing that the result proves Ghana’s readiness to compete at the highest level.
“It was a good game, we won. What we wanted were the three solid points, and we got the points that we needed,” he said. “We are really ready. We talked about qualifying for the World Cup. We didn’t win against Chad, but the boys played all out, and we have now beaten Mali, which is the strongest side in this group. The rest, we are going to deal with them also.”
The Black Stars climbed to 19 points in Group I, three pointsclear of second-placed Madagascar, with Alexander Djiku’ssecond-half header sealing victory at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The result also ended Mali’s eight-match unbeaten run in official competitions, underlining Ghana’s progress under coach Otto Addo.
Looking ahead, Adams was optimistic about Ghana’s remaining fixtures in the qualification campaign.
“In three weeks, we will be going to Morocco to face the Central African Republic, and we will take three points from there also and come home to deal with Comoros,” he assured. The minister further urged Ghanaians to continue rallying behind the national team as they edge closer to a fifth World Cup appearance.
“Ghanaians should continue to pray for the team. Ghanaians should continue to do everything humanly possible to make sure that the Black Stars of Ghana are part of the nation’s teams that will assemble for the World Cup,” Adams added.
The victory over Mali not only boosts Ghana’s chances of topping the group but also restores confidence after a frustrating draw against Chad in the previous round.
With momentum now on their side, the Black Stars will aim to finish the campaign strongly and book their ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
