MTN FA CUP: Peter Amidu’s stoppage-time strike sends Porcupine Warriors into next round

Asante Kotoko have progressed to the next round of the MTN FA Cup after narrowly beating Division One side Future Stars 2-1 a match that briefly threatened to produce another shock result, especially coming just weeks after True Academy sensationally knocked Accra Hearts of Oak out of the competition.
Asante Kotoko travelled to Okese Park on Wednesday afternoon to honour their rescheduled Round of 64 clash, a fixture pushed forward due to earlier calendar congestion.
The Premier League giants, however, found themselves stunned early on when the hosts struck in the 9th minute, taking a deserved lead into the break after a frustrating first half for the Porcupine Warriors.
Despite dominating possession, Kotoko struggled to convert their opportunities before halftime, leaving supporters anxious about a potential upset similar to the Hearts of Oak exit.
Their persistence finally paid off in the 72nd minute when the in-form Hubert Gyau rifled home a well-taken equaliser, setting the stage for a tense finale.
As the game drifted into stoppage time, winger Peter Amidu Acquah emerged as the hero, blasting in a late winner to flip the tie on its head and complete the comeback.
Kotoko’s 2-1 triumph secures their passage into the Round of 32 and spares the club an early elimination, keeping alive their ambition of defending the FA Cup crown.
