Morocco advance to Women’s World Cup last 16 on debut

Germany’s inability to overcome South Korea paved the way for Morocco’s advancement to the knockout rounds, becoming the third African team in the round of 16 after Nigeria and South Africa.

Anissa Lahmari emerged as the hero for Morocco, netting the decisive goal through a rebound after captain Ghizlane Chebbak’s penalty was initially saved.

Following a challenging opening match where they suffered a 6-0 loss against Germany, Morocco rebounded with consecutive wins to secure their place in the round of 16. They are now set to face France in Adelaide.

Colombia, having secured two victories in their first two matches, finish ahead of Morocco in the group standings based on goal difference. They will proceed to face Jamaica, who eliminated Brazil, in Melbourne in a match scheduled for August 8.
