‘Not a Waste of Money’ – GFA Defends Appointment of New Technical Team Members

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has defended its decision to appoint additional members to the national team’s technical setup, insisting that the move is a necessary investment rather than a waste of public funds.

Responding to criticism from sections of the public and football stakeholders, the GFA maintained that strengthening the technical team is essential to improving performance and ensuring the Black Stars are well prepared for upcoming international competitions.

According to the Association, modern football demands a comprehensive technical structure that goes beyond the head coach, with specialists required in areas such as analysis, fitness, goalkeeping, and player development.

“These appointments are not a waste of money,” a GFA official stated. “They are strategic additions aimed at improving performance, enhancing preparation, and supporting the head coach to deliver results.”

The GFA explained that the expanded technical team will help address gaps identified during previous tournaments and qualification campaigns, where issues such as player conditioning, tactical execution, and match analysis were highlighted.

Officials further noted that investment in technical expertise is a standard practice among successful football nations and should be viewed as part of a long-term development plan rather than short-term expenditure.

While acknowledging public concerns about spending, the GFA urged fans to judge the decision based on results and progress on the pitch. The Association expressed confidence that the enhanced technical structure would contribute positively to the national team’s performance.

The new technical team members are expected to begin work immediately as preparations intensify for upcoming international fixtures, with the Black Stars aiming to regain consistency and competitiveness on the continental and global stages.
