Hearts of Oak to Face Dreams FC at UG Stadium

Hearts of Oak kept their Premier League title ambitions firmly on track last weekend with a dramatic 1–0 stoppage-time victory away to struggling Hohoe United. The hard-fought result further highlighted the Phobians’ growing reputation for resilience and defensive discipline.

The victory lifted Hearts to fifth place on the league table with 31 points from 18 matches. Their campaign has been built on an exceptionally solid backline, as they currently boast the best defensive record in the league, having conceded just seven goals. At the other end of the pitch, however, goals have been harder to come by, with Hearts managing only 12 goals so far — the lowest tally among all Premier League sides this season.

Despite their attacking struggles, Hearts of Oak head into Friday’s encounter in impressive home form. The Phobians have recorded three consecutive home victories without conceding a goal and will be eager to extend that run when they welcome Dreams FC to the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

History also favours Hearts in this fixture. Since 2020, the Phobians have dropped points at home to Dreams FC only once in league competition, underlining their dominance whenever the two sides meet in Accra.

Dreams FC, coached by Winfred Dormon, make the short trip in confident mood following an emphatic 3–0 victory over an out-of-form Heart of Lions FC at the Tuba Astroturf last Sunday. The result was their third win in the last five league matches, despite suffering two defeats during that period.

Known as the Still Believe lads, Dreams FC are among the league’s more enterprising attacking sides, but defensive weaknesses continue to pose a challenge. They have conceded 20 goals in 18 matches, a vulnerability that has often undermined their positive play.

The weekend win lifted Dreams FC to ninth place on the table with 23 points. However, their away record remains a major concern. They have managed just one point from eight away matches this season, suffering seven defeats, scoring only five goals and conceding 13, a stark contrast to their home performances.

Friday’s clash at the UG Stadium therefore sets up an intriguing contest between Hearts of Oak’s defensive solidity and home dominance, and Dreams FC’s attacking intent as they seek to improve their fortunes on the road.
