Black Stars defender Derrick Kohn, is brimming with excitement as Ghana gears up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In an exclusive interview with 3Sports, Kohn reflected on the significance of the upcoming tournament, the challenges ahead, and how he is preparing to make an impact on the global stage.
Speaking about what qualifying for the World Cup means to him personally, Kohn revealed the pride and anticipation he feels:
“For me personally, it’s the first time to qualify for a World Cup. I’m very excited, obviously. I can’t wait for the tournament to start.”
Ghana has been drawn into Group L alongside England, Panama, and Croatia. While the group features tough competition, Kohn is confident in the Black Stars’ abilities and believes the team is ready to compete at the highest level:
“The group is hard, obviously, it’s World Cup, so every opponent is good. But I think Ghana is good and a big nation. We don’t have to make ourselves small, we are ready.”
Preparation is key, and Kohn highlighted the upcoming friendly against Germany in March as a crucial opportunity for the squad to fine-tune their tactics and build team chemistry. He sees these matches as essential for Ghana to arrive at the World Cup fully prepared:
“We have a friendly game in March against Germany where we can show who we are. Of course, as a friendly we have to switch players to make a team connection and everything and try to do something else for preparing us for the World Cup. We are ready and hopefully I’m praying that we play a really good World Cup.”
Having overcome delays in his international career, he is now focused on contributing meaningfully as Ghana seeks to make a mark on football’s biggest stage. His experience in Europe, combined with his growing confidence in the national setup, positions him as a key figure in Ghana’s squad for 2026.
