In an official statement released on Monday, December 22, the defending league champions announced that Schmid has signed a two-year contract with the club. The announcement was shared on the club’s official X (formerly Twitter) page, where Gold Stars expressed their excitement about the new addition to their technical team.
“We’re pleased to share that Swiss international Fritz Markus Schmid has joined us as our new Head Coach, signing a two-year contract with the club. Welcome to the family, Coach Fritz. We’re glad to have you with us,” the statement read.
Schmid arrives in Bibiani with an impressive résumé that spans both club and international football. Over the years, he has gained valuable experience working at the highest level of the game, having served as an assistant coach at renowned sides such as Tottenham Hotspur, FC Basel, and the Austria National Team. He later took on a head coaching role with the New Zealand Men’s National Team, further enhancing his credentials.
Most recently, Schmid was instrumental in Kotoku Royals’ promotion to the Ghana Premier League, a feat that highlighted his tactical acumen and ability to build competitive teams.
Now tasked with leading Gold Stars into a new era, Schmid is expected to focus on sustained growth, consistency, and long-term success. The club currently sits third on the Ghana Premier League table with 25 points, just three points behind leaders Aduana FC, making them strong contenders in the title race.
With his wealth of experience and proven track record, Fritz Markus Schmid will be expected to guide Bibiani Gold Stars as they push for another league crown and continue to establish themselves as one of Ghana’s top football sides.
