UEFA to redo Champions League last-16 draw

UEFA has announced that the Champions League last-16 draw has been voided and will be completely redone following a technical error.
According to UEFA, “a material error occurred in the draw for the Uefa Champions League Round of 16 due to a technical problem with the software of an external service provider that guides officials on which teams are eligible to play each other.” As a result, the original draw was declared invalid and will be redone at 15:00 CET (14:00 GMT).
The cancelled draw had initially paired the teams as follows:
-
Benfica v Real Madrid
-
Villarreal v Manchester City
-
Atletico Madrid v Bayern Munich
-
Red Bull Salzburg v Liverpool
-
Internazionale v Ajax
-
Chelsea v Lille
-
Paris Saint-Germain v Manchester United
The first legs of the round of 16 are scheduled for 15, 16, 22, and 23 February, with the second legs on 8, 9, 15, and 16 March. UEFA will oversee the full redraw to ensure the matchups comply with the competition’s eligibility rules.
