Global Demand Surges as Five Million Apply for 2026 World Cup Tickets in First 24 Hours

Interest in tickets for the 2026 FIFA World Cup surged dramatically within 24 hours of the opening of the third sales window, with FIFA confirming that around five million ticket applications were submitted worldwide during the first day.
Football’s world governing body revealed that fans from more than 200 countries and territories registered their interest through FIFA.com/tickets for the expanded tournament, which will feature 48 teams for the first time in the competition’s history.
The World Cup will be hosted jointly by Canada, Mexico and the United States, running from 11 June to the final on 19 July 2026.
Among group-stage fixtures, the match between Colombia and Portugal in Miami on 27 June has generated the highest number of ticket requests so far during the current random selection draw period.
Several other fixtures have also attracted significant demand, including Brazil versus Morocco in New York–New Jersey, Mexico against Korea Republic in Guadalajara, Ecuador’s clash with Germany in New York–New Jersey, and Scotland’s group-stage meeting with Brazil, also scheduled for Miami.
FIFA noted that the strongest volume of applications has come from residents of the United States, Mexico and Canada, followed by supporters based in Colombia, England, Ecuador, Brazil, Argentina, Scotland, Germany, Australia, France and Panama.
The random selection draw phase for ticket applications will remain open until 13 January 2026. FIFA stressed that submitting an application earlier within the sales window does not increase an applicant’s chances of success.
Fans are permitted to apply for individual matches, select preferred seating categories and request multiple tickets, subject to household limits.
In addition to standard ticket sales, FIFA’s official Resale and Exchange Marketplace is scheduled to open on 15 December 2025, providing an alternative route for supporters to obtain tickets.
Premium hospitality packages, which combine match tickets with exclusive services, are already available through FIFA’s official hospitality partner, On Location.
FIFA reiterated that all ticket applications are governed by the rules of the random selection draw. Successful applicants will have payment processed automatically, with tickets confirmed once the transaction is completed.
