Chelsea secure Champions League quarter-final spot with win over Lille

Chelsea kept their Champions League ambitions alive with a 2-1 victory over Lille at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, sealing a 4-1 aggregate win and booking their place in the quarter-finals.

The Blues carried a 2-0 advantage from the first leg into the return match in France but fell behind early when Burak Yilmaz converted a penalty after a Jorginho handball. Chelsea responded quickly, though, with Christian Pulisic restoring their lead in first-half stoppage time.

Captain Cesar Azpilicueta sealed the tie with a composed finish at the back post in the 71st minute, putting the encounter beyond Lille’s reach.

Despite uncertainties surrounding the club’s future, Thomas Tuchel’s side advanced with confidence and will learn their quarter-final opponents in Friday’s draw.
