Medeama SC top league at midseason after gritty win over Hearts of Oak

Medeama SC began the new year in perfect fashion, securing a hard-fought victory over Hearts of Oak to finish the first half of the Ghana Premier League season proudly perched at the summit of the table with a two-point advantage.

The decisive moment came courtesy of Salim Adams, a former Hearts of Oak midfielder, who delivered the winning goal for the Mauve and Yellow in an emotionally charged encounter at the TNA Stadium.

His strike not only settled the contest but also underlined Medeama’s growing authority in the title race.

Hearts of Oak arrived for the clash in encouraging form, hoping to build on a three-match unbeaten run that included victories over Nations FC and Samartex, as well as a draw against Aduana FC.

The opening exchanges reflected that confidence, with both sides competing fiercely and cancelling each other out during a lively but goalless first half. Chances were limited, but the intensity and tactical discipline on display kept the contest finely balanced.

After the break, Medeama gradually asserted themselves and began to dictate proceedings. Their improved ball circulation and sustained pressure forced Hearts onto the back foot, with the visitors spending long spells defending deep.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 75th minute when Adams found space in the box and calmly finished, sending the home supporters into celebration.

The victory ensures Medeama end the first round of matches on 34 points, maintaining top spot and opening a two-point gap over second-placed GoldStars.

It also extends their impressive unbeaten run to 14 league games, highlighting their consistency and resilience this season.

For Hearts of Oak, the defeat brings an end to their positive run, leaving them fifth on the table with 28 points at the halfway stage.

As the league pauses before the second round, Medeama will take confidence from their strong position, knowing they have laid a solid foundation in their pursuit of domestic glory.
