Osimhen’s Brace Sends Super Eagles into AFCON 2025 Quarter-Finals

Nigeria’s Super Eagles delivered a commanding performance on Monday night, cruising into the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals with an emphatic 4–0 victory over Mozambique, led by a brilliant brace from talisman Victor Osimhen.
The Round of 16 clash at the Complexe Sportif de Fès saw Nigeria assert their authority from the opening whistle. Osimhen thought he had given the Super Eagles an early lead just two minutes into the game, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside. That early warning set the tone as Nigeria continued to dominate possession and create chances at will.
The breakthrough finally came in the 20th minute, when Ademola Lookman unleashed a powerful strike after being picked out by Akor Adams in the box. Five minutes later, Adams turned provider once again, delivering a precise pass for Osimhen, who calmly doubled the lead with a composed finish. The early goals capped a dominant first-half display for Nigeria.
The Super Eagles showed no signs of easing off after the break. Just two minutes into the second half, Osimhen struck again to complete his brace, underlining his status as one of Africa’s most lethal forwards. The Galatasaray striker was eventually substituted in the 68th minute, having played a decisive role in the victory.
Nigeria’s scoring was completed in the 75th minute when Akor Adams fired home an unstoppable shot after another intelligent pass from Lookman, sealing an outstanding team performance.
With the convincing result, the Super Eagles comfortably booked their place in the quarter-finals, sending a strong warning to the rest of the tournament contenders and reaffirming their status as one of the favourites for the AFCON 2025 title.
