Manchester City storm into Champions League final with emphatic win over Real Madrid

Manchester City produced a scintillating display at the Etihad Stadium to overwhelm holders Real Madrid and secure a place in the Champions League final, where they will face Inter Milan in Istanbul. After losing two previous semi-finals to the Spanish giants, Pep Guardiola’s side ensured there would be no repeat as they dominated proceedings from start to finish, leaving Madrid’s defenders bewildered by City’s attacking flair.

The first half was particularly memorable, with City showcasing their trademark intensity and precision. Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois performed heroics early on, denying Erling Haaland twice, but could do little when Bernardo Silva opened the scoring with a close-range finish in the 23rd minute. Silva doubled the lead just eight minutes before half-time with a looping header, putting City in a commanding position.

Real Madrid created sporadic threats in the second half, with Ederson making crucial saves from David Alaba and Karim Benzema, but the visitors struggled to break down City’s defence. Manuel Akanji extended the lead 14 minutes from time when his header deflected in off Eder Militao, triggering celebrations at the Etihad. Substitute Julian Alvarez sealed the emphatic 4-0 victory with a late strike, finishing off a brilliant Phil Foden assist.

With this win, Manchester City move one step closer to their first-ever Champions League title and the chance to complete a historic treble alongside the Premier League, potentially secured with a home win against Chelsea, and the FA Cup, where they will face Manchester United in the final at Wembley. The final against Inter Milan on 10 June represents the culmination of a remarkable European campaign for Guardiola’s side.
