Black Princesses to Discover U-20 Women’s World Cup Opponents on June 5

The Ghana U-20 women’s national team, the Black Princesses, will discover their group-stage opponents for the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. The official draw ceremony will take place in Bogotá, Colombia, host city of the tournament.

The 2024 edition of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup marks a historic milestone, as the competition has been expanded from 16 to 24 teams, offering more nations the opportunity to compete at the global level. Africa will enjoy increased representation, with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) fielding four teams, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, and Morocco, doubling its previous allocation.

Ghana’s Black Princesses will be making their seventh consecutive appearance at the biennial tournament, having first qualified in 2010. Despite their consistent presence on the world stage, the team is yet to progress beyond the group phase and will be eager to end that run in Colombia.

Ghana will be represented at the draw by head coach Yussif Basigi and Hannah Ofosu Asare, Administrative Manager of the National Teams Department. Their presence highlights the importance the Ghana Football Association places on the tournament and the continued growth of women’s football in the country.

The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup is scheduled to run from August 31 to September 22, 2024, with matches hosted across various venues in Colombia.

The Black Princesses head into the tournament with renewed optimism, following an impressive showing earlier this year when they clinched gold in the women’s football competition at the 2023 African Games. Standout performances from players such as Mukarama Abdulai have further boosted confidence within the squad.

As anticipation builds toward the draw, Ghanaian fans will be eager to see how the Black Princesses measure up against the world’s top young talents. With momentum on their side, the team is determined to build on recent success, overcome past disappointments, and push for a historic run at this year’s World Cup.
