Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko have officially opened an investigation into allegations of attempted player bribery ahead of their final 2025/26 Ghana Premier League fixture against Swedru All Blacks.
The club confirmed in an official statement released on Tuesday that its Board and Management met with players and the technical team to discuss the team’s disappointing campaign, as well as reports suggesting that certain individuals allegedly attempted to influence some members of the squad before the crucial encounter.
According to reports, defender Patrick Asiedu alerted club officials after becoming aware of the alleged bribery attempt, prompting swift internal action from management. Kotoko praised the defender for what they described as his professionalism, integrity, and commitment to the club’s values.
The Porcupine Warriors stressed that they are treating the matter with utmost seriousness and warned that any individual found culpable after investigations are concluded will face disciplinary sanctions.
The controversy comes at a difficult period for the Kumasi-based club, who ended an underwhelming Ghana Premier League season with a 2-1 defeat to Swedru All Blacks at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The incident has sparked widespread debate within Ghana football circles, with many supporters calling for transparency and stricter measures to protect the integrity of the domestic league. The Ghana Football Association has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
