Gina Bass sets sight on Paris 2024 final after beating Ta-Lou to win Stockholm Diamond League

Accra 2023 gold medallist – Gina Mariam Bass Bittaye is aiming to go the full mile [final] in the women’s 100m dash in the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games in France.

Bass Bittaye, the first ever Gambian to earn qualification at the World Athletics Championships won the women’s 100m on Sunday, June 02, in Stockholm, Sweden.

Bass [29yrs], got off to a good start from the blocks and held off a strong challenge from Ivorian sprint goddest, Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith to win in 11.15 [-0.8m/s].

Ta-Lou would, however, settled for second in 11.16 seconds while Brittany Brown from the United State of American finished third in 11.18 seconds.

Speaking is a post race interview, Bass expressed her delight while revealing her aspirations going to Paris 2024:

“The weather was perfect for me to today and the people of Stockholm were very welcoming and have come out to support us.

“I am in top form and I was confident when I came out today that I could show my talent.

“My next step is to go home to train until the Olympics because I want to reach that Olympic final.

“I am lucky that in my country I do not have to do trials so I can concentrate on my training and preparation.

“I have done lots of racing so it is time for a break now to prepare well.”
