Liverpool book place in Champions League round of 16

Liverpool overcame their domestic struggles to secure a place in the Champions League round of 16 with a dominant second-half performance against Ajax in Amsterdam. The Reds needed only a draw to advance, but it was Mohamed Salah’s clipped effort, the team’s sole shot on target in the first half, that kept them level before the break.
Darwin Nunez, returning to the starting XI after injury, missed a gilt-edged chance before halftime when he struck the post from an open goal. He made amends early in the second half, heading in a precise delivery from Andy Robertson’s corner to double Liverpool’s lead.
Shortly after, Harvey Elliott added a third, finishing brilliantly from a tight angle after a reverse pass from Salah. The 3-0 win not only confirmed Liverpool’s progression to the knockout stage for the sixth consecutive season but also allowed them to approach next week’s final group-stage fixture against Napoli with their spot in the last 16 already secured.
