Yamal set to miss rest of season after hamstring injury, expected to be available for World Cup

Lamine Yamal is set for a spell on the sidelines after being ruled out for approximately five to six weeks through injury, a development that could have significant implications for both club and country as the season reaches its decisive stage.
The teenage sensation will miss FC Barcelona’s remaining La Liga fixtures, forcing the Catalan giants to navigate a crucial title run-in without one of their most dynamic attacking threats.
Barcelona currently hold a nine-point lead over arch-rivals Real Madrid with six matches left, placing them in a strong but not yet secure position in the title race.
Their demanding schedule continues with an away clash against Getafe CF at the Coliseum, followed by another trip to face CA Osasuna at El Sadar. A blockbuster encounter against Real Madrid at Camp Nou could prove decisive before Barcelona round off their campaign with fixtures against Deportivo Alavés, Real Betis, and Valencia CF.
Yamal’s absence opens the door for other attacking options, with Roony Bardghji emerging as the most natural replacement based on recent selections. Additionally, the anticipated return of Raphinha in May could provide a timely boost, allowing Barcelona to reshuffle their attacking setup.
Beyond club football, attention now turns to Yamal’s fitness ahead of the FIFA World Cup. Spain national football team are scheduled to assemble in the final week of May to begin preparations, including friendly matches against Iraq national football team in A Coruña and Peru national football team in Mexico on June 8.
Spain’s World Cup campaign kicks off on June 15 in Atlanta against Cape Verde national football team. Based on current recovery timelines, Yamal is expected to regain fitness roughly two weeks before the opener, giving him a narrow window to regain match sharpness.
While his return before the tournament offers encouragement, questions remain about his physical condition and rhythm heading into the global showpiece. For both Barcelona and Spain, Yamal’s recovery will be closely monitored as they aim to maintain momentum in their respective campaigns.
