Ibrahim Sulemana Receives First Call-Up to Black Stars for 2026 World Cup Qualifiers

Cagliari midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana has received his first-ever call-up to the Ghana Black Stars ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic, according to Sport Blitz 360.
Sulemana, 21, began his European journey with Atalanta’s youth team after moving from Sunyani in 2019, following impressive trials. However, a major injury in 2021 forced Atalanta to release him, prompting a move to Hellas Verona. He broke into Verona’s senior side in October 2022, making his debut in a 2-1 defeat to Salernitana.
In July 2023, Sulemana joined Cagliari, where he has made 14 Serie A appearances this season and scored twice. His call-up highlights coach Otto Addo’s commitment to integrating young talent, following in the footsteps of players like Forson Amankwah and Ibrahim Osman.
Ghana will face Mali on June 6 in Bamako and the Central African Republic on June 10 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi. Currently, the Black Stars sit fourth in Group I with three points from two games.
While Sulemana’s inclusion is a vote of confidence, he will face stiff competition for a starting spot from established central midfielders Abdul Salis Samed and Baba Iddrisu. His performance in training and upcoming qualifiers will determine how quickly he can cement a role in Addo’s squad.
