The session centred on Morocco’s preparations to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.
Fouzi Lekjaa, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy and Finance and Chairman of the 2030 World Cup Committee provided an update on Morocco’s progress since the joint bid was announced in March 2023. He highlighted FIFA’s evaluation report, which awarded Morocco an outstanding score, exceeding required standards and solidifying the nation’s readiness to host the tournament.
To ensure the World Cup’s success, King Mohammed VI directed the creation of an expanded committee comprising civil society, Moroccan expatriates, and African talents. The committee will oversee strategic initiatives, including:
Upgrading stadiums to FIFA standards.
Expanding and modernizing airports in the six host cities.
Improving road infrastructure and urban networks.
Launching a territorial upgrading program beyond host cities.
Enhancing hotel, commercial, medical, and telecommunications infrastructure.
Initiating training programs to develop youth skills.
The Council also approved six international conventions focusing on European cooperation, mutual driving license recognition, and combating cross-border crime. Additionally, King Mohammed VI appointed Zouhair Chorfi as Chairman of the National Electricity Regulatory Authority, tasking him with transforming it into a comprehensive energy sector regulator.
