Kotoko run riot as six-goal thrashing sends Porcupine Warriors top of the league

Asante Kotoko rounded off the year in emphatic fashion with a stunning 6-0 demolition of Bechem United at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, a performance that propelled the Porcupine Warriors to the top of the Ghana Premier League standings.

It was a dominant and polished display from Kotoko, who delivered their most convincing win in years and showcased the growing tactical clarity instilled by head coach Karim Zito.

From the opening exchanges, the home side asserted control, overwhelming Bechem with sharp passing, intelligent movement and ruthless finishing.

Morrison Donzo set the tone with an early opener in the ninth minute, capitalising on sustained pressure to give Kotoko a deserved lead. Samba O’Neil added the second midway through the first half, as Bechem’s defence struggled to contain Kotoko’s attacking intensity.

The pattern remained unchanged after the interval. Hubert Gyau struck soon after the restart to make it three, effectively ending any hopes of a Bechem comeback.

Johnson Owusu then got in on the act on the hour mark, as Kotoko continued to carve open their opponents at will.

With the visitors visibly deflated, the Porcupine Warriors showed no mercy.

Kwame Opoku and Johnson Owusu combined to add the final touches, completing a six-goal rout that delighted the Baba Yara crowd and underlined Kotoko’s attacking firepower.

Beyond the scoreline, the performance sent a clear message to their title rivals.

Kotoko not only claimed three points but also laid down a marker of intent, closing the year with momentum, belief and renewed ambition as they look ahead to the challenges of the new season phase.
