2026 World Cup Qualifiers: Ghana Drawn Against Mali, Madagascar, and Comoros

Ghana have received a manageable draw in their bid to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The draw was conducted after the 45th Ordinary CAF General Assembly in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, with qualifiers set to begin in November 2023.
The Black Stars, drawn from Pot 2, will face Mali, Madagascar, the Central African Republic, Comoros, and Chad in Group I. This draw spared Ghana from some of Africa’s stronger sides, such as Morocco, Egypt, Algeria, Senegal, and Nigeria, giving them a favourable path to qualification.
Ghana are familiar with some of their opponents, having faced Madagascar and the Central African Republic in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. They will also look to avenge a 3-2 loss to Comoros in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The Black Stars have a strong World Cup pedigree, having qualified for four of the last five tournaments. Their performance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, however, was disappointing as they failed to progress past the group stage, losing to Portugal and Uruguay while defeating South Korea. Ghana will aim to bounce back and secure qualification for 2026, hoping to replicate the success of their 2010 campaign when they reached the quarter-finals in South Africa.
For the qualification process, six teams were divided into nine groups. The winners of each group will earn automatic qualification for the World Cup. Meanwhile, the four best runners-up across all groups will enter a CAF play-off tournament, with the victor advancing to the FIFA intercontinental play-offs.
Ghana will be determined to build on their history and make a strong showing in the 2026 tournament.
