Ghana Set to Play Germany in March Pre-World Cup Friendly

Ghana will take on Germany in an international friendly in March 2026 as both nations step up preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by Mexico, Canada and the United States.

The friendly forms part of the final build-up for the two sides ahead of football’s biggest global tournament and will see Ghana coached by Otto Addo come up against his country of birth. Addo, who was born in Hamburg, is a former Bundesliga professional and a 15-time Ghana international, and was part of the Borussia Dortmund side that won the German championship in 2002.

Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann expressed his anticipation ahead of the encounter, highlighting Ghana’s strengths and the value of the fixture for his team’s World Cup preparations.

“We are very much looking forward to the clash with Otto’s team,” Nagelsmann said. “Their strong transition play can give us a taste of what to expect in the World Cup group match against Ivory Coast.”

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo also welcomed the opportunity to test his side against elite opposition.

“This is an amazing opportunity for us to test ourselves against one of the best teams in the world,” Addo said. “Germany are a very good side, and we can’t wait to face them in Stuttgart.”

Ghana qualified convincingly for the 2026 World Cup as group winners and will compete in Group L, where they face England, Croatia and Panama in the group stages.

The upcoming friendly will be the fourth meeting between Ghana and Germany. Their first encounter came in a friendly match in Bochum in 1993, which Germany won 6–1. The sides later met twice at the FIFA World Cup, with Germany claiming a 1–0 victory in the group stage at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, before a thrilling 2–2 draw in their second group-stage meeting at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 8:45 pm on Monday, March 30, 2026, and will take place in Stuttgart, providing Ghana with a high-profile test ahead of the World Cup finals.
