I came over to Thompson and I was like I think you got that one – Noah Lyles shares honest opinion after been declared 100m Olympic champion

American sprint freak – Noah Lyles became the first man to win the US an Olympic 100m gold medal in 20 years on Sunday, beating Kishane Thompson of Jamaica by five-thousandths of a second.

The crowned winner [Lyles] couldn’t have been candid enough in his post race opinion, saying until his name was displayed on the giant LED board he thought his closest rival – Kishane Thompson had won the race.

“We were waiting for the names to pop up, and I’m going to be honest, I came over [to Thompson] and I was like: ‘I think you got that one, big dawg!’” he said.

He went on to reveal how he snatched that all important vitory:

“Something said I need to lean, and I was like, ‘I’m going to lean’ because it’s that type of race.”

The 2024 men’s 100m final was so tightly contested that both Noah Lyles and Kishane Thompson finished in 9.79 seconds.

Another subplot from that final worthy to note is that all eight of the athletes finished within 0.12 seconds of Lyles’ time, making it the closest 100m final since Moscow 1980, and the 27-year-old says he was prepared to find his edge in what he expected to be a tight race.

Again, Obliques Seville who finished last crossed the line in 9.91 seconds, better than Carl Lewis’ gold winning time [9.92] in Seoul 1988.

Noah Lyles is aiming to win four golds at this year’s Olympic Games.
