Bawumia donates $10,000 to Hasaacas Ladies ahead of CAF Women’s Champions League

The Vice President of Ghana and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has personally donated $10,000 to Hasaacas Ladies to support their preparations for the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU Zone B qualifiers in Ivory Coast. The Ghanaian champions earned their spot in the tournament after winning the 2023–2024 Ghana Women’s Premier League.
The donation was presented to the management of Hasaacas Ladies in Accra on Tuesday by Dr. Bawumia’s aide, Tamimu Issah, who also conveyed the Vice President’s best wishes to the team ahead of their departure for the competition on Thursday.
This financial support comes as a timely boost for Hasaacas Ladies, easing the significant costs associated with participation in the prestigious tournament. It is not the first time Dr. Bawumia has supported the club or women’s football in Ghana.
Four years ago, when Hasaacas Ladies qualified for the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League, Dr. Bawumia responded to their public appeal, helping them financially for both the qualifying rounds in Ivory Coast and the final tournament in Egypt. Since then, he has consistently supported every Ghanaian Women’s Premier League champion representing the country in the CAF Women’s Champions League. Last year, he extended his support to Ampem Darkoa Ladies, the reigning league champions.
In addition to supporting clubs, Dr. Bawumia has, for the past three years, sponsored the SWAG Female Footballer of the Year award, providing winners with a cash prize.
For the WAFU Zone B qualifiers, Hasaacas Ladies have been drawn in a competitive group alongside Nigeria’s Edo Queens, Burkina Faso’s Omnisports Etincelle, and Niger’s AS Garde Nationale. With Dr. Bawumia’s backing, the team will aim to represent Ghana strongly on the continental stage.
