Milo U-13 Champions League returns with fresh format and ambition

The Milo U-13 Champions League is poised to recommence in December, following a five-year hiatus, heralding a new era for Ghana’s esteemed youth football tournament.

This rejuvenated competition promises an overhauled format and expanded avenues for budding athletes to showcase their talents.

The relaunch, held at Nestlé Ghana’s Accra headquarters on Friday, attracted prominent figures in sports administration and football development, who gathered to witness the unveiling of a new logo and an updated trophy.

The trophy, donated by Abedi Pele from his personal collection, serves as a testament to his enduring commitment to youth football.

His son, Andre Ayew, Ghana’s most capped international player, presented the trophy and expressed his hopes that the tournament would aid in identifying future national team talent.

Ayew emphasized the importance of guiding young athletes, stating, “Others came and did their part, so we need to also open the door for them.”

Nestlé Ghana’s Managing Director, Salome Azevedo, urged participants to strike a balance between football and academics, advising, “Football is a wonderful complement to your education.” Virtual messages from ambassadors Stephen Appiah and Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams underscored the significance of structured youth competitions in fortifying the national pipeline.

Representatives from the Sports Ministry, Ghana Education Service, and Ghana Football Association attended the event, signaling institutional backing for the initiative.

The tournament is designed to provide increased playing time and scouting opportunities, with all 16 regions represented in the national finals, scheduled to take place from December 3 to 6 at Paa Joe Park in Kumasi.
