CAF announces AFCON 2025 Group Stage Best XI ahead of Round of 16

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the Best XI for the group stage of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, following the conclusion of all group matches. With the tournament now shifting focus to the Round of 16, which kicks off on Saturday, CAF’s selection highlights the standout performers who impressed across Africa’s premier football competition.
Egypt’s Mohamed El Shenawy was named the best goalkeeper after a series of composed and decisive displays between the posts. The defensive line includes Burkina Faso’s Edmond Tapsoba, DR Congo’s Axel Tuanzebe, and Morocco’s Noussair Mazraoui, each lauded for their consistency and defensive solidity throughout the group stage.
The midfield trio features Tunisia’s Yassine Abdi, Cameroon’s Carlos Baleba, and Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman, with Lookman being Nigeria’s sole representative after contributing two goals and two assists. Morocco also placed a second player in midfield, Brahim Díaz, who played a creative and influential role for the hosts.
Up front, Senegal star Sadio Mané leads the attack, supported by Ivory Coast’s Amad Diallo and Algeria captain Riyad Mahrez, whose performances were pivotal in driving their teams forward. Morocco’s Díaz and Mazraoui are the two representatives from the host nation, underscoring their impact in the group phase.
