Napoli rout Liverpool in Champions League clash.

Liverpool suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Napoli in their opening Champions League Group A clash in Italy, enduring a night to forget under Jurgen Klopp. The Reds were three goals down by half-time and could have conceded even more, with Alisson saving a penalty and Virgil van Dijk blocking a close-range attempt to prevent a heavier scoreline.
Napoli took an early lead when Victor Osimhen struck the post and Piotr Zielinski converted a penalty in the fifth minute. Andre-Frank Anguissa and Giovanni Simeone then extended the advantage before half-time, with Simeone scoring just three minutes after replacing the injured Osimhen. Zielinski added a fourth after the break, putting the result beyond doubt. Liverpool’s only goal came from Luis Diaz, who curled in a fine effort in the second half.
The visitors were overwhelmed by Napoli’s relentless attack, while defensive errors and sloppy possession haunted Klopp’s side. Joe Gomez struggled to cope with Napoli’s forwards, and even Mohamed Salah failed to make decisive contributions in key moments. Despite late appearances from new signing Arthur Melo and Thiago, Liverpool were unable to mount a comeback.
The defeat leaves Liverpool with just two wins from their last seven matches across all competitions, highlighting serious concerns as they begin their Champions League campaign.
