Mbappé sidelined by injury for Bayern Champions League clash

Paris St-Germain have been dealt a major blow ahead of their UEFA Champions League last-16 clash against Bayern Munich, with star forward Kylian Mbappé ruled out of the first leg through injury.

The France international suffered a thigh problem during PSG’s 3-1 Ligue 1 victory over Montpellier on Wednesday and was forced off after just 21 minutes. Medical assessments have confirmed that the 24-year-old will be sidelined for approximately three weeks.

It was a frustrating outing for Mbappé, who endured a difficult evening before his injury, missing two penalties and an open goal. His absence will be keenly felt as PSG prepare to host the German champions at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday, 14 February.

Mbappé is also set to miss PSG’s Coupe de France clash against Marseille on 8 February, as well as their Ligue 1 encounter with Monaco three days later.

Despite the setback, the forward has enjoyed an outstanding season, scoring 25 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions for the Parisian club.

PSG will hope Mbappé recovers in time for the return leg against Bayern Munich, which is scheduled to take place in Germany on 8 March.
