2026 WCQ: Otto Addo disappointed with Black Stars’ lackluster performance in draw against Chad

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has expressed disappointment with his team’s underwhelming display in their 1-1 draw against Chad in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Ghana, who were hoping to maintain their winning momentum in Group I, were denied all three points after conceding a late equalizer in N’Djamena on Thursday.

Jordan Ayew opened the scoring for the Black Stars in the 17th minute, but a late strike from Celestine Ecua in the 88th minute earned the hosts a share of the spoils.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Addo was candid about his side’s performance.

“I can’t say we played excellently or we played well because it was a draw. The result is everything…we had a lot of corners, we did nothing out of that,” he said.

“We had a lot of shots, attempts on goal, we had a lot of ball possession, and normally we have to win this game. This, in the end, surely, is not good enough, and we have to improve, especially on our execution,” Addo added.

Despite the draw, Ghana remain at the top of Group I with 16 points.

The team now turns its attention to a crucial Matchday 8 fixture against Mali, scheduled for Monday, September 8, at the Accra Sports Stadium, with kick-off set for 19:00 GMT.
