Mexico name strong squad for Ghana friendly ahead of 2026 World Cup

Mexico have unveiled a 20-man squad for their upcoming international friendly against the Black Stars as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The encounter, scheduled for May 22 in Mexico, forms part of both countries’ final build-up plans before the start of the tournament next month. With the World Cup drawing closer, the fixture is expected to provide an important opportunity for both technical teams to assess tactical systems, player combinations and overall squad readiness.

Mexico head coach Javier Aguirre has selected a balanced squad featuring a mix of experienced internationals and emerging talents. Among the notable names included are defender Jesus Gallardo, versatile defender Israel Reyes, midfielder Brian Gutierrez and winger Alexis Vega.

As one of the host nations for the tournament, Mexico are expected to use the game as a competitive tune-up before opening their World Cup campaign against South Africa on June 11. Facing Ghana is also seen as a valuable test against African opposition ahead of the competition.
