Jamaica calls on Shashalee Forbes to replace Shericka Jackson in women’s 100m

Jamaica has called on sprinter – Shashalee Forbes to replace world 200m champion – Shericka Jackson in the women’s 100m dash at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in France.

The abrupt decision was taken on Wednesday, July 31 after the world champion [Jackson] announced her withdrawal from the 100m race.

Though reasons were not assigned to why Shericka Jackson would recuse herself at this eleventh hour, but it’s a known fact that the fifth fastest woman of all-time in the history of the women’s 100m has been battling with an injury lately.

For instance, Jackson experienced what was described as ‘a cramp’ during the women’s 200m race at the Istvan Gyulai Memorial held at the Bregyó Athletic Center in Székesfehérvár.

The incident raised concerns about her fitness going into the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

In a recent interview with Jamaican media, Coach Stephen Francis of MVP Track Club provided limited information regarding Jackson’s condition.

When asked about her health, Francis responded, “I think that is something you’re going to have to address to her medical personnel but as far as I know she appears to be okay to me.”
