I’m not moved by criticisms – Benjamin Asare unfazed as he embraces Black Stars number one role
Benjamin Asare says he remains focused on improving his game and refuses to be distracted by public opinion as he continues to establish himself as Ghana’s first-choice goalkeeper.
The Hearts of Oak shot-stopper made the remarks during an exclusive interview with 3Sports, where he reflected on his rapid rise in the Black Stars setup and the mentality that has helped him succeed.
Asare, who earned his national team debut in 2025, has quickly become one of the most trusted goalkeepers in the squad through a series of composed performances. Despite facing scrutiny from sections of supporters, the goalkeeper insists criticism does not affect his confidence.
“So I don’t worry about people’s opinion. I know we can make mistakes in life but I don’t let that burden me,” Asare said.
“Today, I can mistake but tomorrow I can achieve something great. So, I don’t let some things worry me that much. My encouragement is that God helps me maintain the level that I am now.”
The goalkeeper also addressed perceptions surrounding his emergence with the national team, explaining that his journey has been built on hard work and consistency over the years.
“I’m a committed goalkeeper. Those who don’t know me will think I came from nowhere to the Black Stars,” he added.
Asare further stressed that selection decisions ultimately rest with the coaching staff. “Player appointment and goalkeeper selection is all the work of the coach,” he stated.
The experienced goalkeeper is currently part of Ghana’s squad preparing for the upcoming international friendly against Mexico on May 22, 2026.
He was called to replace Dreams FC shot-stopper Gidios Aseako.
