Ghanaian delegate missing after Commonwealth Games in Birmingham

A delegate from Ghana has been reported missing in Birmingham following the conclusion of the 2022 Commonwealth Games, according to local police.
Authorities revealed that a total of 17 athletes and delegation members from various countries were reported missing during the Games. This group consisted of 13 competitors and four officials or support staff attached to different national teams.
As investigations progressed, nine individuals were successfully located, while eight remained unaccounted for at the time of the report.
Among those still missing were:
- Two boxers from Pakistan — Suleman Baloch (22) and Nazeer Ullah Khan (25), whose names appeared in media reports
- Five members of the team from Sri Lanka
- One delegate from Ghana
Police also disclosed that 12 members of the Sri Lankan delegation had initially gone missing, but seven have since been found, leaving five still unaccounted for.
In addition:
- One competitor from Botswana
- One athlete from Cameroon
were also reported missing earlier but have both now been located.
A police spokesperson confirmed that authorities are actively collaborating with immigration officials to trace those still missing and ensure the safety and wellbeing of those already found.
“We’ve received a total of 17 missing people reports from visiting Commonwealth Games delegations – 13 competitors and four other delegation members. Of those, nine have since been found and eight remain outstanding.
We’re making enquiries alongside immigration officials to ensure they are safe and well.”
Despite the situation, Team Ghana completed the Games with a strong performance, winning five medals.
