Criticism only motivates me – Mohammed Aminu

Ghanaian winger Mohammed Aminu has revealed how he deals with negative comments about his career, insisting that far from breaking him, criticism only fuels his determination to succeed.
The former WAFA and Manchester City youngster has often been tagged as one of Ghana’s “lost talents,” with some fans suggesting he failed to live up to expectations. Others have accused him of arrogance. But Aminu says those perceptions are misplaced.
“You know, sometimes I see comments like I’ve wasted my talent, or that I don’t respect. But those people don’t even know me, and I don’t know them either,” he told Akoma FM. “When you come close to me, you see the way I am. Even when I came here, the coaches and staff thought I was the same as what they had heard. But I proved to them I’m not that kind of person. I just try to be humble.”
For Aminu, the comments, no matter how harsh, serve as motivation to push harder in his career.
“Yeah, it always motivates me. Sometimes I even love to see that, because it shows people are watching me and following me. It makes me want to do more and prove them wrong.”
As he prepares for his return to Ghanaian football, Aminu admitted that he does feel the weight of expectation, but insists he thrives on it.
“Yeah, I do because there are a lot of people looking up to me, they want to see me. For me, I’ve always been a chill guy. I don’t really care about pressure, but sometimes I look and I want to show. I want them to see that, oh, this is the Aminu that they have been seeing.”
The 24-year-old explained that he has always chosen to focus on the voices that matter most, his coaches and family.
“When I was growing up, I always wanted to be there. I didn’t really listen to people back then. I didn’t even know people were looking up to me until I got there. I’ve never listened to anyone except my coaches and my family. I just keep going.”
Once regarded as one of Ghana’s brightest prospects, Aminu’s journey has been filled with challenges. Yet his words show a player still determined to fight, motivated not by praise, but by criticism, pressure, and the expectations of those who continue to believe in him.
