“Borussia Dortmund Set to Launch First African Football Academy in Ghana”

Borussia Dortmund is set to open its first official international academy in Africa, choosing Ghana as the location for the BVB International Academy Ghana. Scheduled to launch in February 2026, the academy will provide structured youth football training for boys and girls aged six to 18.

The academy will follow Borussia Dortmund’s renowned football philosophy, focusing on high-performance standards, modern coaching techniques, and the holistic development of young players both on and off the pitch. In addition to player development, the academy will prioritize coach education and community programs, aiming to strengthen Ghana’s long-term football infrastructure.

The move underscores Ghana’s rising status as a hub for football talent in Africa. The West African nation has produced numerous players who have gone on to compete at the highest levels in Europe, making it a strategic choice for Dortmund’s first academy on the continent.

By establishing the BVB International Academy Ghana, Dortmund joins a growing list of European clubs investing in Africa’s grassroots football, reflecting the increasing global competition to nurture young talent and support football development across the continent.
