CAF Bans Samuel Eto’o and Hands Down $20,000 Fine Over AFCON Incident

The decision, confirmed Wednesday by FECAFOOT, also includes a $20,000 fine imposed by the Confederation of African Football’s disciplinary committee. FECAFOOT said it had noted the ruling but argued it “lacks any explicit justification.”
The federation added that the “expedited procedure leading to this decision raises serious concerns regarding the fundamental requirements of a fair trial” and insisted it would continue to defend its president.
CAF announced on Monday that it was investigating incidents from two quarterfinal fixtures: Cameroon versus Morocco and Algeria versus Nigeria.
While the continental body did not detail the Cameroon match incidents, Eto’o was seen angrily gesturing toward his Moroccan counterpart Fouzi Lekjaa during the game, with CAF president Patrice Motsepe seated nearby.
“FECAFOOT reaffirms its unwavering support for its president and its commitment to upholding the principles governing credible disciplinary justice,” the federation said.
