Black Stars Open Training to Fans Ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that the Black Stars’ training session scheduled for Friday will be open to members of the media and fans, marking a departure from the team’s recent practice of holding sessions behind closed doors.

Training is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. as the senior national team steps up preparations for their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic.

The Black Stars will be based in Accra for five days before traveling to Bamako on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, for their first qualifier against Mali, which is scheduled for Thursday, June 6. Four days later, Ghana will return home to face the Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

Following an inconsistent start to their World Cup qualifying campaign, the Black Stars will be aiming to steady the ship and secure crucial results in the double-header. Ghana currently has one win and one defeat in Group I, having opened the campaign with a 1-0 victory over Madagascar in Kumasi before suffering a narrow 1-0 loss to Comoros in Moroni.

The team heads into these fixtures under pressure, having endured a difficult run of form in 2024. The Black Stars are yet to record a win this year, registering three draws and two defeats across competitive and friendly matches.

Their struggles were highlighted by a group-stage exit at the Africa Cup of Nations, followed by goalless and disappointing friendly encounters against Nigeria and Uganda in March during an international tour in Morocco.

With qualification hopes still within reach, the upcoming matches against Mali and the Central African Republic represent a critical opportunity for the Black Stars to restore confidence, reconnect with supporters, and revive their World Cup campaign.
