According to him, the decision was reached after the sector minister, Honourable Kofi Adams carefully analyzed the various components of the national team’s budget.
Speaking to Connect 97.1FM, Mr. Bagbara said it was not rational to continue paying management committee members when the team fails to achieve its primary objectives.
“The Budget has several components and the minister took them one by one to analyse. So the scenario he gave is that, management committee members are there for the national team continuously. During the AFCON qualifiers for instance, we won some and lost most; therefore, we didn’t qualify for the AFCON. So where is the rationale for paying winning bonuses? The job wasn’t delivered,” he noted.
He stressed that henceforth, bonuses for the management committee will only be considered when the Black Stars successfully deliver on their mandate.
“The decision was, work to ensure the team qualifies and once they do, whatever is due you (management committee). Hence the decision,” Mr. Bagbara added.
The explanation comes at a time when the Ministry is pushing for greater accountability and efficiency in managing resources allocated to the senior national team, as Ghana prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qqualifiers.
