Ghana set to clash with Japan in 2025 Kirin Cup ahead of 2026 World Cup

Ghana will lock horns with Japan in the 2025 edition of the Kirin Challenge Cup, a high-profile friendly encounter that promises to be a key part of both nations’ preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

With qualification already in the bag, the two sides will take full advantage of this international fixture to fine-tune tactics, evaluate squad depth, and build momentum ahead of football’s biggest stage.

Japan punched their ticket to the World Cup earlier this year with a commanding 2-0 triumph over Bahrain in March, while Ghana sealed their qualification last Sunday after edging Comoros 1-0 in Accra.

For head coach Otto Addo and his technical team, this test will be instrumental in analyzing player performance and tweaking systems before Ghana’s fifth appearance on the world stage, which will take place across Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Having missed out on qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, marking their first absence from the tournament in two decades  the Black Stars will treat this friendly as a crucial opportunity to remain competitive.

It also gives them the chance to measure their level against quality opponents they could face during the World Cup.

The showdown is set for Friday, November 14, 2025, and will be played at the Toyota Stadium in Aichi, Japan. Anticipation is already building for what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
