Ghana winning the World Cup is my ultimate goal – GFA President Kurt Okraku

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt E.S. Okraku, has expressed his desire to see Ghana lift the FIFA World Cup trophy under his leadership.

The CAF Second Vice President will oversee Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following the Black Stars’ successful qualification campaign. Okraku says guiding Ghana to victory on football’s biggest stage would be a dream come true.

“I want to win the World Cup. I want to win the World Cup. I’m going to tell the coach that I want to win the World Cup. That should be our vision,” he told 3Sports.

“Because you don’t go to war thinking about not finishing it or not coming out as victors.”

Although Ghana missed out on qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the team made amends by securing a spot at next year’s World Cup.

The Black Stars only needed a point against Comoros in their final Group I match to confirm back-to-back qualifications but sealed it emphatically with a 1-0 victory at the Accra Sports Stadium.

In the end, Ghana’s qualification was confirmed even before the final whistle, after second-placed Madagascar suffered a 4-1 defeat to Mali. Mohammed Kudus, the Tottenham Hotspur forward, scored the decisive goal in the 47th minute to send Ghana through in style.

Ghana’s best-ever World Cup performance came in 2010, when the team reached the quarterfinals in South Africa, narrowly missing out on a semifinal spot after a heartbreaking loss to Uruguay.
