Paris 2024 Olympic Games: Thompson-Herah will not defend women’s 200m title

Five-time Olympic champion, Elaine Thompson-Herah has revealed that she will not defend her women’s 200m sprint title at Paris 2024.
The 31-year-old became the first woman to win back-to-back Olympic sprint doubles at Tokyo 2020 when she retained her 100m and 200m gold titles.
But the double double Olympic champion has opted against racing the 200m in the upcoming Jamaican trials, which double as the national selection event for the next Olympics.
She will instead focus on the 100m. The trials take place from June 27 to 30 at the National Stadium in Kingston.
She appeared to sustain an injury while competing in the 100m at the NYC Grand Prix earlier this month.
The Jamaican is the second-fastest woman in history over that distance, though injuries have disrupted her competition schedule in the last year.
The athletics events at the Paris Olympics will take place between August 1-11.
Thompson-Herah, the second fastest woman in history after Florence Griffith Joyner, is hoping to compete at her third Olympics overall, having also won gold in the 4x100m relay in Tokyo – an upgrade from silver at Rio 2016.
