Mané Fires Senegal Past Egypt to Secure Place in 2025 AFCON Final

Senegal have secured their spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Egypt on Wednesday night at the Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier, reinforcing their status as one of Africa’s most consistent footballing nations.
The semi-final was a tense, tactical battle between two continental heavyweights. Egypt, seven-time champions, leaned on their defensive organization and experience, while Senegal patiently probed, confident in their structure and attacking quality. The breakthrough came in the 78th minute, when Sadio Mané rose to the occasion, finding the back of the net with a decisive finish that sent Senegalese fans into celebration and broke Egyptian resistance.
Mané, currently starring for Al Nassr, capped another influential performance in a tournament where his leadership, creativity, and pace have been central to Senegal’s success. Under coach Aliou Cissé, the Lions of Teranga once again demonstrated a balance between defensive discipline and purposeful attacking play, a formula that has carried them deep into the competition.
Senegal entered the semi-final on the back of a 1–0 win over Mali, a match that highlighted their tactical maturity and composure under pressure. Throughout the tournament, the Teranga Lions have boasted one of the strongest defensive records, conceding few goals while controlling matches through a well-organized midfield.
For Egypt, the defeat prolongs their wait for another AFCON title. The Pharaohs have not lifted the trophy since their historic three-peat ended in 2010, and once again fell just short of reaching the final despite a resilient display.
Senegal will now march into their fourth AFCON final and second in recent editions. Having already beaten Egypt in the 2021 final to claim their first continental title, the Teranga Lions will aim to repeat history and lift a second crown.
They will face the winner of the Morocco vs Nigeria semi-final on Sunday at the Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, carrying high confidence and belief that this could once again be Senegal’s moment on the African stage.
