“Brahim Díaz Matches Osei Kofi’s 57-Year-Old AFCON Record”

Brahim Díaz has written his name into Africa Cup of Nations history after scoring in Morocco’s 2–0 quarter-final victory over Cameroon, matching a 57-year-old record held by Ghana legend Osei Kofi.
The Real Madrid forward found the net in the quarter-final on Friday, ensuring he has now scored in each of Morocco’s first five matches at the tournament — a rare feat that places him among an elite group of players in AFCON history.
Díaz opened his scoring account in Morocco’s opening win over Comoros and continued his fine run with goals against Mali and Zambia during the group stage. He then struck the decisive goal in the round-of-16 victory over Tanzania before adding another in the last eight against Cameroon.
With that goal, Díaz became only the second player in AFCON history to score in five consecutive matches within a single edition, drawing level with Osei Kofi, one of Ghana’s most celebrated footballers of the 1960s. Kofi was a key figure in the Black Stars’ golden era, winning top scorer honours at the 1965 Africa Cup of Nations and leaving a lasting legacy in African football.
Díaz’s remarkable consistency has been a major driving force behind Morocco’s run to the semi-finals on home soil, and the 25-year-old is now among the leading contenders for the tournament’s Player of the Tournament award.
As the competition reaches its climax, Díaz will be aiming to continue his scoring streak and help Morocco secure their first AFCON title since 1976. Should he score in the Atlas Lions’ semi-final clash, he will stand alone in the record books as the first player to score in six consecutive matches at an Africa Cup of Nations.
