“‘It’s Tough for Me’: Anthony Joshua Opens Up on Friend’s Death”

Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has spoken publicly about the deep emotional toll following a tragic car accident that claimed the lives of two of his close friends and team members.
According to Nigerian authorities and his promoter, Joshua was involved in a road accident earlier this month along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway when the vehicle he was travelling in collided with a stationary truck. The boxer escaped with minor injuries, but the crash proved fatal for his personal trainer, Kevin Latif Ayodele, and his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami.
The devastating loss has left a profound impact on Joshua, who described the period as one of the most difficult moments of his life. Taking to his verified Facebook page on Thursday, the former champion shared an emotional tribute, reflecting on the bond he shared with the two men and the pain of losing them so suddenly.
“Thank you for all the love and care you have shown my brothers,” Joshua wrote. “I didn’t even realise how special they are. I’d just be walking with them and cracking jokes, not even knowing God kept me in the presence of great men.
“100% it’s tough for me, but I know it’s even tougher for their parents. I have a strong mind, and I believe God knows their hearts. May God have mercy on my brothers.”
Joshua’s message struck a sombre and heartfelt tone, revealing not only his personal grief but also his deep empathy for the families left behind by the tragedy.
Tributes and messages of condolence have continued to pour in from across the boxing world and from fans around the globe, as Joshua mourns the loss of two men who played a vital role in both his personal life and professional career.
