CAF Women’s Champions League: Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa miss out on qualification

Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies failed to secure a place in the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco following a 3-0 defeat to Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens in the WAFU B Qualifiers final. The match took place on Saturday at the Yamoussoukro Stadium in Côte d’Ivoire.
Bayelsa Queens dominated the final, with goals from Miracle Joseph, Flourish Sabatine Choma, and Chinyere Igbomalu sealing a convincing win over the reigning Ghana Women’s Premier League champions.
Bayelsa Queens succeed Ghana’s Hasaacas Ladies, who won the previous WAFU B qualifiers and went on to finish as runners-up in the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League, defeating Rivers Angels of Nigeria 3-1 last year.
The 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League is scheduled to be held in Morocco from 31 October to 13 November, featuring eight teams in the final tournament. Six teams have already qualified:
-
AS FAR (Morocco): Host club
-
Wadi Degla FC (Egypt): UNAF Champions
-
Green Buffaloes (Zambia): COSAFA Champions
-
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies (South Africa): CAF Women’s Champions League holders and COSAFA runners-up
-
Determine Girls FC (Liberia): WAFU A Champions
-
Simba Queens FC (Tanzania): CECAFA Champions
The final slot will be awarded to the UNIFFAC representative following the conclusion of the Central Zone qualifiers, scheduled from 10 to 16 September 2022 in Malabo. The draw for the Central Zone qualifiers will take place on 6 September 2022 in Cairo, Egypt.
Ampem Darkoa’s exit means Ghana will be represented in Morocco only by the legacy of Hasaacas Ladies’ previous performance in the inaugural tournament.
