Wahi Fires Lens to Shock Champions League Win Over Arsenal

French side Lens produced a memorable Champions League performance as they came from behind to secure a stunning 2-1 victory over Arsenal, with Elye Wahi emerging as the hero on a dramatic European night.
Arsenal weathered early pressure from the hosts and struck first in the 14th minute when Gabriel Jesus latched onto a perfectly weighted through-ball from Bukayo Saka before calmly finishing past the goalkeeper. However, the Gunners’ momentum was disrupted when Saka was forced off with a heel injury in the 33rd minute, a setback that visibly affected their attacking rhythm.
Lens responded impressively and found an equaliser 11 minutes later through Adrien Thomasson, who curled a superb strike into the far corner after sustained pressure. The French side grew in confidence, continuing to trouble Arsenal’s defence as Kevin Danso fired narrowly wide and Thomasson saw a header ruled out for offside.
The decisive moment arrived in the 69th minute when summer signing Elye Wahi showcased his quality, meeting Przemyslaw Frankowski’s cross with a first-time finish into the bottom left corner to complete the turnaround. The goal sealed a famous victory for Lens in their return to the Champions League and sent the home crowd into raptures.
Despite the defeat, Gabriel Jesus maintained his strong Champions League record, having now been directly involved in 16 goals across his last 16 starts in the competition, scoring 13 times and providing three assists.
The win lifts Lens to the top of Group B with four points after two matches, while Arsenal drop to second place on three points. Mikel Arteta’s side must now quickly refocus as they turn their attention to a crucial Premier League clash against Manchester City on Sunday.
