Medeama Set to Take on CAF Champions League Holders Al Ahly

Ghanaian champions Medeama SC have been handed a tough challenge in their CAF Champions League debut, drawn in a group alongside reigning champions and record-holders Al Ahly. The Ghanaian side will also face Algerian champions CR Belouizdad and Tanzanian champions Young Africans (Yanga FC), making for a highly competitive group.
Medeama earned their spot in the group stage after overcoming Guinean giants Horoya AC in the final qualifying round, showcasing their potential on the continental stage. However, progressing from this group will be a significant test. Al Ahly, Africa’s most successful club, boasts an 11-time Champions League record, while CR Belouizdad dominates Algerian football with 10 league titles. Yanga FC brings continental experience as regular participants in the Champions League and last season’s CAF Confederation Cup finalists.
To bolster their chances, Medeama have hinted at strengthening their squad with new signings ahead of the group stage. Additionally, their new stadium in Tarkwa is expected to be ready to host home fixtures when the tournament kicks off in November.
Medeama will need to adapt quickly and perform at their best to make an impact in this demanding group, as they embark on their maiden CAF Champions League campaign.
