Samartex bow out of CAF Champions League following 2-0 defeat to Raja Casablanca.

Ghana Premier League champions Samartex saw their debut CAF Champions League campaign come to an end on Saturday following a 2-0 defeat to Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca in Morocco. The loss sealed a 4-2 aggregate victory for Raja, who advance to the group stage, while Samartex bowed out after a promising first-leg 2-2 draw in Accra.
On Raja’s home turf, the Timber Giants struggled to contain the Moroccan side. Marouane Zila broke the deadlock just before halftime, and despite a determined effort from Samartex under coach Nurudeen Amadu, the hosts couldn’t find a way back. Raja put the result beyond doubt in the 88th minute through Naoufel Zerhouni, ending Samartex’s hopes of progressing further in the competition.
Despite the defeat, the club remained optimistic about the experience gained. “This experience, though disappointing, offers numerous lessons that we can use to improve and strengthen our performance in the future,” Samartex stated on social media. Club President Dr. Richard Kwaku Duah Nsenkyire also praised the team for their efforts, encouraging them to build on the lessons learned.
Samartex now shift their focus back to domestic competition, with crucial Ghana Premier League fixtures against Bibiani Gold Stars and Medeama SC ahead. The Timber Giants aim to defend their league title and earn another opportunity to compete on the African stage next season.
